Last Friday, March 1, the commemorative act was celebrated for the twenty years that the District Heating of Cuéllar has been serving the community. The public heat network is composed of two Innergy biomass boilers, capable of providing heating and domestic hot water service to more than 250 homes, as well as five public facilities, among which is: a sports center, a fronton, a cultural center with 12 rooms, heated pool and a public school. The district heating, after 20 years, is considered a benchmark for its reliability and efficiency of work, in addition to having been the gateway of this technology in the country.
The event consisted, in addition to an event to bring together the main actors of the district heating in Spain, in a guided tour for all attendees to see the plant, a few words of the Minister of Development and Environment, Mr. Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones, the Honorable Mayor of Cuéllar, Mr. Jesús García Pastor and Mr. Julio Artigas of the IDAE (institute of diversification and saving of energy)
A commemorative plaque was unveiled with special mention of the organizations that participated in the project: Cuéllar City Council, IDAE, EREN and the Regional Government of Castille-León. Among the attendees, were also: Mr. Luis Senovilla, councilman of the city council of Cuéllar, Mr. Rafael Ayuste, head of the renewable division of EREN (Regional Energy Agency of Castille-León), Mr. Javier Díaz, president of Avebiom, who acted as one of the great architects to bring together the main actors of the event, representatives of SOMACYL and Miguel Ángel Pamplona, on behalf of Innergy, who knows even the smallest detail of this biomass heat network for public use, being our Director of budgets and costs. The event ended with the serving a Spanish wine provided by the City Council of Cuéllar for all attendees.
This day, more than ever, has been a golden opportunity to strengthen positions among associations, public bodies and companies that work day by day with the commitment to continue developing the use of heat networks for public use with biomass in our country.
The savings in capital are remarkable, accompanied by the significant environmental improvement that involves the reduction of 1,500 tons of carbon dioxide per year and more than 530,000 liters of diesel. If this is multiplied by the years of life of the heat network, we have a total of 30,000 tons of carbon dioxide that we have kept from our atmosphere and more than 10.5 million liters of fossil fuel that the municipality of Cuéllar has stopped burning.
